The Warren Centre Heritage Garden

The Heritage Garden at the Warren Centre in Southampton used to have a rather dirty and overgrown wall along one of its borders. This 10 metre wall has now been transformed into its key feature as beautiful mosaic displaying key symbols of the City’s heritage. The symbols depicted are ‘The Titanic’, ‘The Southampton Bargate’ and ‘The Spitfire’. This project involved over 50 people who live, work or attend school locally. Because of the durability of the mosaics these people will be able to show their children and grandchildren how they made a difference to their community.

Community Case Study

Three girls aged 11 each spent 30 hours on the project and were responsible for the hull of the ‘Titanic’. Considering the kind of community they are growing up in, the fact that they spent a whole week of their Spring Break cutting and placing coloured tiles shows how effective mosaic making is.
